About this course
Yi Quan means "mind-intent boxing," and it strips internal martial arts back to their root. There are no forms to memorize and no set sequences. You stand, and you learn to feel and direct what's happening inside the body. Everything in the art grows out of that.
This course is a complete transmission from Master Peter Wei Sheng Zhu, a third-generation lineage holder in the direct line from founder Wang Xiangzhai (1885–1963) through Han Xingqiao. Master Zhu trained under Han in China before bringing Yi Quan to Australia in 1983. After more than 40 years of daily practice, he's teaching it publicly for the first time.
The training comes in two parts. Richard Robertson, Master Zhu's senior student of over 25 years, builds your foundation: the standing postures, breathing, alignment, and the movement and warm-up work that supports them. Master Zhu then teaches the advanced material, including the old standing methods, the complete Yi Quan Qi Gong set, the Long Stance, and the inner principles of intent that turn stillness into genuine internal power.
Between the lessons, Master Zhu tells stories of his own teacher Han Xingqiao and the early Yi Quan masters, from Wang Xiangzhai himself to old-timers like Big Nose Li and Spectacle Chen. You come away inheriting some of the culture the art grew from, not just a set of exercises.
Included with the course is a 44-page PDF guide covering the history of Yi Quan, its training methods, and rare archival photographs of Wang Xiangzhai, Han Xingqiao, and Master Zhu.
Some come to Yi Quan for the internal roots of martial power. Others come for the calm and clarity that deep standing practice brings. Either way, the course gives you a structured path through the three things the art is built on: intent, alignment, and awareness.
